In 1968 and 1969 Buick offered the GS 400 in a convertible and hardtop model. Standard issue of the GS 400 was a 400 cubic inch (6.6L) engine (with likely lower stated horsepower rating to keep insurance premiums lower) of 340 horsepower (350 hp stage 1 ) and 440 ft. lbs. torque, a four barrel Rochester Quadrajet carburetor, dual exhaust, 2.93 standard gear ratio optional ( limited slip differential, (3.64 stage 1 option, 3.42 with A/C ), and the available three speed turbo Super Turbine 400 automatic transmission (revered as the finest automatic transmission ever built, and commonly called Turbo Hydramatic 400), U-shape Hurst (automatic transmission) shifter and linkage, located on a center console. A 1968 or 1969 GS400 equipped with the TH400 auto transmission was faster off the line than many of its contemporaries thanks to am unusually “low” 1st gear. Shift pattern for the TH400 from most forward position is Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive, Second, First. A standard 3 spd or optional 4 spd manual gearbox was also available. Compression ratio on this engine was a very sensible 10.25:1, which allowed for the use of any grade gasoline to be used in normal driving without pinging. The factory air cleaner was covered with a large round chromed cover, secured with a wing nut. The small air scoop behind the hood hinge-line on the 1968 model was fake, although it could perhaps technically be called functional, as it could have bettered the air flow available to the climate control system.

Like all of the GM versions of this body style in this period, the convertible chassis was considerably more robust that the hardtop version. In fact, the convertible chassis was a full box frame chassis that had numerous lightening holes. The hardtop chassis was a 3/4 box frame with no lightening holes. The only GM hardtop ever built with the “Swiss cheese” convertible chassis was the GTO Judge. Same chassis. All of the GS400 convertibles were built at GM’s Fremont, California assembly line.

This wonderful convertible is 1 of only 2,454 Buick SG 400 ragtops built.  The Scarlet Red exterior is in very nice condition, as well as the factory black top and interior.  Under the hood is a GM 400 cid 4bbl V-8 @ 360hp, paired to a Turbo-400 Automatic Transmission. Inside there are Black Bucket seats with full factory gauges including 120mph speedo and Original Buick Gran Sport steering wheel. This GS400 was ordered as a column shift, without the center console, with power steering and power brakes.

1970 Plymouth Road Runner

Posted: March 17, 2016 in Uncategorized

In 1970 Plymouth made changes to the front and rear end style of the basic 1968 body, and these would prove to be successful. Updates included a new grille, a cloth & vinyl bench seat, hood, front fenders, quarter panels, single-piston Kelsey-Hayes disc brakes and non-functional scoops in the rear quarters. “High Impact” colors were options available for 1970, with names like In-Violet, Tor-Red, Lime Light, and Vitamin C. The engine lineup was left unchanged and a heavy-duty three-speed manual became the standard transmission. The four-speed manual and the TorqueFlite automatic were on the option list. Sales of the ’70 Road Runner dropped by more than 50 percent over the previous model year to around 41,000 cars. This was due to a move by insurance companies to add surcharges for muscle cars and by the introduction by Plymouth of the compact Duster 340. The duster cost even lower than, and performed as well as, the Road Runner, and the smaller engine qualified it for much lower insurance rates. This Vitamin C Orange painted 2 door coupe begs to be driven. Under the hood is a healthy 383ci motor with an aluminum Mopar intake, a Holley 650CFM Vacuum Secondary Carburetor, a chrome 383 Air Cleaner, chrome Mopar Valve Covers, sock manifolds with a dual exhaust. The Distributer is stock with an Accel Coil. The Radiator is stock as well. The Transmission is a 4 speed manual with a Hurst pistol grip shifter in the center console. This Road Runner is equipped with power Steering and drum brakes. Chrome steels wheels wrapped in Remington XT-120 Radial Tires (P235/60R15) keep this car in contact with the road. The Vitamin C orange paint in bright and in great condition. The Steel Cowl hood has a flat black stripe that matches the rear wing. The front and rear bumpers are clean and bright. The glass is clean and clear with nice stainless window trim. The factory Road Runner and Plymouth emblems are in excellent shape. Inside the car is a stock Black vinyl interior. The high back front bucket seats are in nice condition and very comfortable. In the factory dash are all stock gauges and an aftermarket Pioneer AM/FM/Stereo Cassette player. The center console has working factory interior lighting and the Shifter. The door and interior panels are all in good shape with factory knobs and handles. The black carpet and headliner are clean and in great shape. With government and insurance regulations making these awesome cars difficult to own when they were produced new, these cars were starting to be purchased less and less, making them more and harder to come by today. This is a wonderful example of a car built for performance in the prime of the era of American Muscle cars.

In 1968, Chevrolet launched the second generation of the Chevelle. The 1968 Chevelle got an all-new sculpted body with tapered front fenders and a rounded beltline. Hardtop coupes featured a semi-fastback, flowing roofline and a 3 inch shorter wheel base than the 66 67 models.
This Chevelle started as a Malibu 2 door Sport Coupe, but from there, things got a bit different.
Now, protruding from the engine bay rests a Blown 454 Big Block Chevy motor. Sitting prominently on top is a Polished Weiand 671 blower with 2 Holley 4150 Supercharger 750cfm Vacuum Secondary Carbs. Its all Chromed and polished aluminum under the hood. Aluminum water pump and aluminum heads. March Performance Serpentine pulley drive and brackets, billet MSD Distributor, and 6AL Box Blaster 2 Coil. An Aluminum Radiator and win electric, and an Optima Red top battery. Hooker Competition Headers with an Aluminized dual exhaust. When this monster roars, you feel it as well as hear it.
The exterior is a work of art. Custom black gloss paint, with wild color graphics, all painted and clear coated. A nice black vinyl top adds a classic look to the car. The chrome bumpers, molding, trim, and handles are very clean and bright. The Chevelle is dressed in SS396 emblems and Chevelle badging. The front is modernized with HID headlights.
It sets on beautiful 17in Boyd Coddington Aluminum wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich Comp TA tires. P245/50R17s on the front, with P255/60R17s on the rear. The braking has been upgraded with Wilwood 4 piston calipers, 4 wheel drilled and slotted rotors, and a hydraulic booster. A Turbo 400 Automatic transmission with a Bandit Shifter sends power to a 12-Bolt rear end. Finally, power steering finishes of the package.
The Black and Yellow interior is just as customized as the exterior. Custom high back buckets and matching rear seat and center console. Securing the occupants into the seats are RCI Racing Harnesses. The Chrome tilt column has a nice custom aftermarket steering wheel. The door panels are stock, as well as the rear quarter panels, cranks and interior handles. The dash is all black, with a carbon fiber insert, and all white face Auto Meter gauges. There is a Timing Controller for retarding the boost built into the glove box. In the custom center console is the Bandit shifter, Boost Gauge, and a Panasonic AM/FM/CD player. A Bass Controller is installed cleanly under the dash, driving twin Punch 12in subwoofers in the trunk, which is custom paneled as well, dressed nicely in black and yellow. The interior is kept at a comfortable temperature with Air Conditioning.
This Chevelle was built to run as well as for show. There are so many details to this vehicle; it really has to been seen to gain a full appreciation. From the blown motor, all the way to the fine stitching on the seats, this is a remarkable American muscle car.
